Nickel Error or Just worn?

    Found this in a roll a while ago.Don't really know what is wrong with it.Would like your help.

    IMO, that is just a really worn nickel.

    It looks like it may have been dipped in some sort of acid or reactive chemical.

    Some of the devices and letters appear to have dissolved rather than worn from circulation and the "ripple" effect that covers the entire surface.
