Im confused on this coin. It came from a random circulated bin, payed $4 for it. I Bought it for silver value, and i know its not worth anything above that. But is this coin stained or naturally toned? Haven't seen one quite like this, as the reverse seems nicely toned, but the obv. looks nasty. Thoughts?

That's toning. Cool coin, and I suspect it shows a bit more color in-hand.

Don't you have cable modem? Gotta have that.

I agree looks like toning - just not my kind of toning.

pretty hard core toning, I imagine that some of it looks as if it is a stain being black and paint like in appearance. The reverse looks nice, the obverse, not so much so.

I don't think the obverse is natural toned it looks like bad oxidation black spots by your pics or somebody did something to it . as far as the reverse probably not natural either.to me anyway.

Obverse look like it had been stored is a Whitman threefold has that old blue hue to it.

When you look very closely, does it appear that there is a substance on the obverse such as paint? Does it flake-off at all? If not, it looks natural to me.

looks very flaky but isn't. that is what confused me about it. At first i thought it was paint.

When toning gets very heavy like that - it will flake off.

Yea and so will paint too. I tell you the more i look like it it looks like navy blue paint chipping off. I would bet a couple of hairs on my head to a couple of hairs on your head GD that is a form of paint or nail polish. Why i;m i posting this for you to post again wrong move on my part.

I agree with that. I really suspect that that was some kind of paint that is wearing off. Just doesn't appear to be toning.
