Bought this nickel on ebay about 7 years ago figuring it was cleaned because the color was just not right IMHO that being ok because I paid cleaned money for it. Well I took it to the ANACS table at the coin show this weekend and not only did he not think it was cleaned but also pointed out a flaw in the planchet which I hadn't noticed. See if you can identify the variety and flaw!

    A doubled-die is not a planchet flaw.

Do I see a slight planchet crack on the reverse above Monticello through the 'R' of PLURIBUS?

That is what I see, but what is just to the left of the crack?

I don't know about the planchet flaw, but it appears that "GOD" may be doubled (can't tell from picture whether it is a DDO or a machine doubling). Also the "43" in the date may show doubling as well.

Yes this is the DDO Doubled eye FS-05-1943P-102 (29), CONECA DDO-006. I bought this on ebay as I said about 7 years ago and got it at a great price. It is actually milky white and I thought maybe cleaned but I was happy for the price I paid!
What I didn't notice was the crack in planchet on the reverse. When the ANACS rep mentioned it I didn't know what he was talking about! He said that it is enough to be mentioned on the label if I decided to slab it. In his oppinion it should grade 63 maybe 64 and I agree with that.
    Thanks for looking

I'll guess it is the doubled eye variety, and the flaw is on the reverse going down from PLURIBUS? Nice coin! :thumb:

I think I may need to clearify here!
I did buy this knowing it was a doubled eye variety so was not cherried incase some thought this! I paid around $70.00 so I figured even if it was cleaned (I'm thinking over dipped when I'm saying cleaned) it was still worth it!

Oh, and I thought that it was cherried.
    Still, at $70!
    Still a great buy.

from the picture it looks more like a lamination than a crack... but I may be wrong I often am

I don't know. I've got a lot of Jeffies and I'm thinking I'm just going to sit on them for now. It seems varieties and errors are showing up every day.

    Great find Nickelman.
