I work at a place that sell cigarettes and alcohol and I come across some neat stuff every now and then (recently its been less frequent) I got this from someone buying some liquor. I never understood the need for alcohol or tobacco that you'd be willing to spend something like these at face value to get it. I know alot of people have no clue what they have but I get Morgans sometimes and you'd think everyone would know they are worth more than a dollar
Im not sure. The only way I gather you can tell is by weight and I dont have a scale yet im going to take it to coin shop in a bit to see what weight is. Silver is 12.5 grams and clad is 11.34 grams. I dont know any other way to tell so if someone else does please say how to tell
lol I feel like a noob duh! I was thinking it was like the silver clad like the post 64's but the proof silver is 90% wow. Now that I feel like an idiot its a clad proof :-D still a good coin to find and pay face for it
About 10 years ago I was working at a c-store as a 2nd job and one day I came into work and there were 2 Ike proofs and 3 JFK proofs in the register. Which at the time would have been the face value of a pack of cigarettes. I bought them.
You could always use the popsicle stick method. Just get a popsicle stick and balance it over a pencil or something with 2 coins that you know are the same weight then tape the stick to the pencil so it's like a scale. Take off the known coin and put on the coin in question. You should see a slight difference. That's how a lot of people check the 82 pennies to see if they have a copper one or a zinc one. I've had many silver coins that I couldn't tell just by looking at the rim. If that was the only way I checked then I would have sent back a lot of silver to the bank. I'm sure that coin was clean enough though that you could clearly tell.
