my friends brother found a jefferson nickel in a roll ( he works in a bank) we dont know what year it is because its completely struck through on the obverse. there is a ghosting of jefferson. the reverse has what appears to be full steps ( no magnification, i stared though for several minutes). theres a few contant marks on both sides and what im not sure is either a contact mark or a scratch ( prob contact from new roll...) on the obverse. my question, from this description what would you think a <MS60-2 FS> struck thru error from the mid-late 90s be worth? i know im gonna get like 10 "give us a picture"s, im just asking a guess because i cant scan pics. thanks
Well its hard to say what it is...it could be a capped die... So I'm number 1....somehow get a photo...a scan...take it with a camera...have a friend help but a photo would be what we need. Speedy
obverse http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/500990/2.JPG Reverse http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/500990/1.JPG (download and zoom in on this one) hope this helps, it looks much better in person. from what ive seen most of what appears wrong could just be part of whatever caused the problem in the 1st place. the bottom step is the only one that looks grungy in person, and only when you look up at it.
Looks like a capped die error to me. But I wouldn't grade it MS as it has apparent wear. Certainly worth having it looked at though as these are not all that common.
I agree...capped die error...I wouldn't get rid of it but I would keep it as its a neat error and worth a few dollars. Speedy
