I found this 1940 Jefferson in change from a vending machine today. The details are much better than the pics show. It has full steps. I also found a 1952 Jeff today too. It was a good day.
ROTO. Very nice find, sorry from the pictures I can not see the the steps 1940 was a very good year were you could find 5 steps with a nice appearance and a full step nickel for that year having 6 full steps is very scarce a very nice find congratulations. Bruce.
Wow, great find! Must have been stolen, but I'm glad it reached another collector before it got worn down further or even destroyed.
Cool! IMHO, the Jefferson nickels are probably the only series where it is relatively possible to collect every date/MM from rolls/pocket change.
Thank you all very much. I have to apologize, I jumped the gun. There is only 5 steps, as Bruce pointed out that was more common. I just used a small magnafying glass and must have been a little excited. Today I put it under the microscope and checked. Although I the steps was less than I thought, I did find a lot of doubling on the reverse. It looks to be on nearly all of the letters. Could be Longacre, I get confused on the difference. I'll have to invest in a scope I can connect to the computer, so I can share more detailed pics.
Nope---that would only be on coins that Longacre designed...such as IHC's. There are some DD's known for 1940 but I don't have any good photos at this time. Speedy
