IMP ANTONIVS PIVS AVG - Laueate, draped, and cuiraised bust right PM TRP III COS III PP - Sol, radiate, advancing left, raising right hand and holding whip. Star in field
Yeah, it looks like just a small clip, but does it look deliberate or like it was just a not-so-round flan to begin with. It's just curious. If it's deliberate, I would have to think it was like making change.
This is yet another problem with grading ancients. Some issues are regularly nice and round with smooth edges so coins that are not are 'defective'. Others are usually ragged edged and really hard to see in a photo whether the irregularity was pre-striking (which bothers me very little) or damage later (which I prefer to avoid). Then we have to decide how this irregularity compares to such things as a good strike, good style, nice surfaces, good centering and just all around eye appeal. That is why I can't deal with grades consisting of a couple letters even with a couple numbers tacked on. I'm sorry to hear that this coin is clipped rather than just struck on an irregular flan. Otherwise it looks like a good coin.
