If I did the math right it looks like you paid 9.89xface. That isn't too bad considering silver is at 13.72/ounce.

Just teasin, before I got it figured out, I would get sniped at the last possible second and get so frustrated. Now I bid with 1 second to go, 9 times outta 10 at least.
If I use software it waits until 18 seconds before and that is not good unless Im off fishing or at work, then I use it.

Anyways, you did real good tonight, congrats !!

    Very nice snipes. Congrats.

    Arizona Jack:
    What software do you use?
I try to wait for the last seconds, but sometimes the cable is slow and I miss the time. I have lost more that I have gotten this way-- unless I bid just under 1 minute.

I have a variety of techniques and seem to do well fairly often. Of course, I missed out on a few things, including a few that I really wish I had gotten, but I've score some nice deals, sometimes even below face.

    1) Most people bid on auctions in the evening. Less competition during the day. (Just don't bid against me! :D)
    2) Bid an "odd" number. Instead of $10.00 or even $10.01, go with $10.11 or $10.34.
    3) Find items that have been miscategorized or poorly listed. I once got 5 nickel dollar coins for $0.99 when they were in the wrong category and the title didn't mention that you were getting 5 coins. (Actually it was 7 coins as the seller was also throwing in a couple of extra dollar coins that were even further hidden in the description.)
    4) Check the sellers previous auctions. If they aren't primarily a coin dealer, then you may actually get a nice find. (I once bought 100 wheat cents from an orchid dealer, and one of them was actually an IHC!)

Of course, this is ALWAYS after doing my homework and knowing what I I'm after, and what it goes for locally and mail-order. Only then will I bother bidding on ebay.

This is some darn good info.
I use these when buying other things.
I just started buying coins on eBay.

A person could make a living following these suggestions and reselling.

How's this for a miscategorized listing?

L@"()"@K-----> Barb. EDEN ----> I dream of Jeannie

8X10 photo of Barbara Eden as "I dream of Jeannie" with machine-printed autograph.

Listed in category: Coins & Paper Money > Coins: US > Three Cents > 3c Silvers

Interesting, how do I find "PREPRINT photo of an Original Autograph."
The word PREPRINT in the dictionary? Is that one that was printed before it was printed?

I have a saved search on eBay for 3-cent silver coins. That listing came up. I can't imagine how it got into the category.

I guess it's in the same dictionary that defines the process of "pre-boarding" an airplane. Does that mean you get on the plane BEFORE you get on the plane?

I think that the "Walking Liberty" design is one of the most beautifulest designs ever put on a coin! In my humble opinion.

I debated about putting this info up, as most people don't think about it like that, but as long as you guys don't bid against me, I'm happy to share the knowledge.

Here's another tip regarding Dutch auctions that I discovered by accident. It's a little complicated to explain, so follow my example.

Dutch auctions - for those that don't know - are auctions for multiple lots, where the winner(s) get the lots for the LOWEST successful bid. I once bid on generic bulk world coins listed at $4/lb. (Yes, you read that right - and I've bought from her twice now!) If the auction is at $4 and it looks like not all of the items will sell, you can bid as high as you want, and still pay the lowest winning price, and WIN YOUR LOTS, EVEN IF YOUR BID WASN'T FIRST!!!

Example - There were 200 something lots. When I found the auction, there were only 10 or so lots left available. I wanted more than 10, so I had to up my bid to $4.25 per lot. (She only charges $10 for a priority rate box of up to 50 lbs, so I wanted to maximize what I got for my shipping charges). I bid $4.25 for 40 lots. Lo, and behold, my id moves to the top of the list, and I get priority, bumping off people who had bid BEFORE me. When the auction ended, some of the lots had not gone above the $4 per lb, so I got all 40 pounds for $4 per lot, again, BUMPING OTHERS OFF THE BOTTOM OF THE LIST, at the same price as what they bid. Why? All because I had I higher price I was willing to pay, yet didn't need to. :) Doesn't happen often, but unless you know the ins and outs of the dutch auction, you won't realize how to win them without actually having to pay more for them.

Feel free to send your "donations" of thanks in my direction, and please don't bid against me. LOL

Nice snipe for the price - hope silver keeps going up - or do I?

Anyway you got lucky my friend. The REAL sniping goes on in the last 10 seconds or so. My software sucks but when I do bid (and I pretty much always snipe) I pull it off in the last 5-8 seconds. Many times my bid doesn't even register and most of the time I'm not even at my computer when it happens.

I'm sure many here know of it but there is a way to have someone snipe for you. Been doing it for years myself. I don't like to "show my hand" as it were but I work a lot too. I set up to snipe what I want at the price I will pay. If it gets through I usually win and get a good deal. If it doesn't I didn't want it that bad.
