See picture I added below - It's not a die crack - but something much different. Also is an RPM. Just picked this up today. Pictures don't do it justice!!! Strike is a little weak but luster makes up for it. The light rub on the back can only be seen under magnification and the steps are in pretty good shape. The bonus was the crack that runs from the S & T in states to the N in cents. Please tell me what you think. Grades anyone? Wow, sweet coin! Beautiful! I'd go a MS-65, but could be wrong. Only if those marks on Monticello weren't there, lol. But that is one sweet coin! BTW, is it a RPM by any chance? Phoenix
Very NICE! There does seem to be some "weakness" of hair detail, but the steps look pretty nice. While I can't tell if it is FS I would say it would grade MS65! The Luster is great! Chances are....it is The War years are packed full of RPM's and such things. It has been said that EVERY 1943 nickel shows some type of doubling. Speedy
Thanks guys! I am not sure if there's any doubling - I'll bring it in tomorrow and look under the scope. I didn't notice any with the loupe last night when I looked at it. Best Regards Darryl
Nice nickel! I would say MS65 but wouldn't be supprised if PCGS would grade it MS66. Not sure about Full Steps from your pics can till it is close but can not tell for sure. From the 3rd picture it looks like a RPM to the east. Then again might be the picture! Thanks for sharing.
Holy Cow Batman!!! Warning - large files! You may want to open the outlined version then the normal version. My Die Crack turned out to be something much different - this is under high magnification. Tell me what you think! Yes - it is an RPM Also a clear shot of the steps. Very nice! Here later I hope to set down with my books and pick out what RPM this one might be! Speedy
Was hoping you would stop by and check it out - Do you think if this was ever circulated those cracks would eventually break away? Especially the one on top - it looks like it would lift given enough friction. Glad it's in the condition it is and we'll never have to find out!!! Best Regards Darryl
Thanks Mark - I agree - it's exciting to look at coins more than 60 years old that look like they just came from the mint ...
Die cracks are very common with the war nickels - I don't see any RPM that matches that in the RPM Book. RPM#19 is the closest but I don't believe that this is it! Nice find!
Thanks - wonder if Speedy or Mikediamond will be able to identify it? If Phoenix hadn't mentioned it I would not have looked for it. Best Regards, Darryl
Hey Nickelman, How about RPM-012? 019 looks like it, but like you, I don't believe that it is a match. 012 also shows some "doubling" on the top "tail" of the D....also if it is 012 it might show a die crack at K-1 Southwest through upper hair. Speedy
RPM-012 might have a Die crack from middle of upper hair Northeast to rim at K-1 as Speedy mentioned. Also RPM-012 is also listed as DDO-001 Light spread on LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, decreasing from IN to TRUST. RPM-019 might have a Die crack through upper hair and is also listed as DDO-003 Light spread on date, star, and LIBERTY. Both these are CONECA Top 100. I'm not sure if yours is one of these. Take a closer look at the obverse. Not sure if I see a die crack in Jefferson hair or not!
Thanks guys! I will try to get better photos of the obverse tonight at home. If those don't do it I'll get it back under the scope on Monday. Best Regards Darryl
Lol, man, and to think I was afraid of asking cause I thought you already knew of it, or that I was seeing things. Glad I did. Phoenix
I hope these pics of the odv. help identify the RPM#. If not I'll get it under the scope on Monday. Thanks Darryl http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee123/USS656/1945DObv3.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee123/USS656/1945DObv4.jpg
