So my choice for grading is NGC thats it toally becuase i watch shop at home, are they anygood, are they top 3 out of all grading services? rate NGC out of 10, i think they are a 9, what do you all think?
They are certainly one of the top two. NGC and PCGS are kind of a close tie and I'd give them both a 10 for quality and accuracy.
Tyler20: Please watch your language, and consider checking into a rehab is you spend any time watching 'shop at home' and those two geniuses for anything but amusement. However, NGC is considered, along with PCGS, the top tier of slabbers (TPG'ers).
watching shop-at-home is not bad, buying NGC slabs is not bad, but buying NGC slabs off shop-at-home is bad, very very bad!!
NGC is certainly on of the top two grading services that slabs coins. I would avoid purchasing them through HSN, as all of their material is grossly overpriced.
^^^ Agreed. No coins off the TV are worth buying. NGC and PCGS and still the top two graders, though, as others have mentioned.
I did the auto ship of the presidential coins. The thing that bothers me about them is the roll of coins comes in a sealed container that you cant even see through..who REALLY knows whats inside. An insert in the order says to not open the roll container as it will decrease the value..on the roll it has a sticker that says ICG valid. ms63 or better..no numbers. ICG is a grading system not a grading service correct? I am cancelling any future shipments. $60 for a roll of $1 coins is just foolish ..geez.. I cant believe I just admitted that ..hehe
Where did you get these coins ? Apparently not from the US Mint. And ICG is indeed a grading service just like NGC or PCGS.
Including the accuracy of "First Strikes", "Early Releases" and "First Day of Issue"? In my view anybody who endorses those designations loses all credibility.
Oops ..sorry I forgot to add that in my post..The auto ship is from home shopping network. Does ICG give numbers when they grade item?
First of all, I dont do well with people who want to put words in my mouth and say something I didnt say. I never said they were accurate with putting "First strike" "Early release" or "First Day of Issue" on their slabs. I was talking about grading not title designations. If you want my honest opinion, I think all of those designations are BS and I never have or never will buy them. So, before you start shooting off at the mouth before you know the facts why dont you ask first before being a smart a**. Thank you
indianhead: Don't get upset, yet. I believe that dreamer94 was talking about the TPG'ers, not you. And the fact that if they endorse the labels that THEY lose their credibility, not you.
I didn't put any words in your mouth. In fact, I WAS asking you whether your comment pertained to those designations. Treashunt is right. The credibility I was referring to wasn't yours. I was referring to the TPG's credibility. I agree with your assessment of PCGS and NGC being the best when it comes to grading.
I believe NGC and PCGS are basically equally as good with NGC a bit more consistant with their grades. I don't own any graded mercury dimes but I have quite a bit of experience with NGC morgans. In every case they are either right on or undergraded.
I apologize then, I misunderstood your post. To answer your question, I wasnt referring to those designations because I am a strong disbeliever in placing those title designations on a slab when there's no way thet even the mint can tell you that a particular coin was struck on the first day. This is according to the mint director himself who was interviewed by Coin World. If the United States Mint doesn't endorse it how can a TPG? Who knows. Again, I apologize.
No problem. I apologize for not being more clear. I am intrigued by all the premiums being generated for potential "First Day of Issue" for the First Spouse coins. Since the entire production run was sold on a single day, how is it possible to have "First Day" or "Early Releases". Are people whose coins get shipped first going to claim they are different in some way?
I think I recall seeing the same thing. ICG is certifying unopened rolls as "uncirculated" but not guaranteeing the grade of the coins inside. I've never collected rolls because I want to see the coins.
Thats right if the market will believe that then i am not going to be a fool. i think i should start buying the first spouse coins in bulk and selling them everyone else is making money and i am only collecting and that is not getting me far. i wonder if should start preselling the 3rd coin in the series ?
