Has anyone submitted just one or two coin to NGC for grading, or do most people wait until they have 5 to send? I actually have 3 coins I want to shoot out to them, but each coin is a different service. I have one raw that I want graded, one GSA Morgan and one PCGS crossover.
If you submit five , I believe you receive a discount compared to the cost if you only submitted one. If you have a NGC membership, I believe you get five free submissions, but the five coins must be submitted at the same time. I could be incorrect. Best best read your membership benefits and the submission fees.
I just recently (last week) sent 3 coins in to NGC for grading. It is definitely cost prohibitive to do so! I have to add $45 to the cost of each coin to cover all of the fees. It is generally not worth sending coins in if they are worth less than a few hundred dollars. The added expense only eats away at any potential profit when you sell, so it really should be done only when the slab may mean at least $50 to the price of the coin. That's just MHO, though.
WOW, I thought you can just submit each coin "Early Bird" which is for coins valued at 3,000 and under for $30.00 instead of the "Economy" which is $17.00 a coin for a minimum of 5 coins.
you can (send it early bird), but you must also factor in the postage and insurance (both ways) that and the packaging cost a total of $14 and change, I rounded to $45
There are special deals for those that submit in bulk. Some are 100 of a kind for around $10 ea. and one company ( forget if PCGS, ANACS , or NGC allow 4 or 5 different coins in the 100. As to why, they are hoping a certain percentage gets a grade that is well above the price range you mention. Those are being counted on making up for the slight loss on the ones they put on ebay and shows. Jim
