eBay listing for a coin that's way out of wack. Either I've TOTALLY lost my ability to ID these coins OR There's something seriously wrong with this coin AND it's identification. https://www.ebay.com/itm/273783986885 The NGC label says 1943; I'm reading the date as 1945 which according to Krause doesn't exist. The NGC label says the face value is (One?) FEN; I'm reading the coin as 1 Chiao. Where have I gone wrong (I'm assuming the the problem is with me and not NGC). I could use some real help here, please.
It is indeed 1943 but the denomination is wrong (assuming the photos are right) It is 1 jiao. 1943 1 fen is actually semi scarce for some reason.
I have the 1 fen and the 1 jiao. I am after the 5 fen. Thanks for your response. I'll have to look at the date again and get my numbers correct.
The 1943 5 fen is exceedingly rare. Krause and other catalog value do not reflect the true value of it. I have one that is cleaned and it costed me a pretty penny. I was that tempted to return it but I remembered how hard it was to find any in first place. The last time I saw a problem free example, seller wanted 2000+ for it.
I'm close to completion of the Krause listed China-Japanese Puppet States. I'm missing only 4: Manchukuo 1933 5 Li Manchukuo 1935 5 Li Provisional Gov't 1943 5 Fen Reform Gov't 1940 1 Fen I'd like to get some better Red Fiber coins. Not sure how good really well struck uncirculated ones look. Maybe mine are about as good as the come.
I'm impressed - some of the rarer Manchukuo coins are 1933 1 fen, 1939 5 li and 1943 1 jiao (old type). 1935 5 li should be somewhat easy. I am suspecting that my 1943 1 jiao is not genuine. Only one that I am missing is the Reformed Government 1940 1 fen. I saw one for sale but the asking price was just absurd at 4000.
