Afternoon all, Got my slabbed NGC 5 oz America the Beautiful rounds back today from NGC. Have to say the holders are MASSIVE! These things are the size of an iPad or a Nook. Cost was roughly around $40 to have each slabbed, total of $200. Oversize holder and early release label too. Overall, I have to say I'm impressed with how the slabs turned out. Plus, they way that NGC slabbed these monster pucks, you can also see the edge lettering, so a nice touch there. I ended up with a couple of MS69PL's, MS69, MS68 and a MS67. Not too bad considering the sets the shop I went to today were THOROUGHLY beat up. Nicks, scratches, die marks, etc. I'm happy with them and think they're pretty neat for the collection. I'm definitely going to be hanging on to these for a long time. I guess PCGS is starting to grade these too, but the holders are quite a bit smaller. Haven't seen any yet, but looking forward to seeing some. I took a picture next a regular size slab so you can see how big these things are next to each other Deuce
Hey, you can almost use that thing as a dinner tray.....J/K I saw the size of those slabs in an NGC advertisement in this months Numismatist. Those pics of yours don't belie the size. Enjoy them.......
Beautiful coin, so impressive that big! I guess they will have to design a speical slab box for these.
I read a story about these coins in Coin World a while back. They said that, to get the additional detail require for these coins, they were struck directly from the working "hubs"...not dies! As far as I know, these are the first coins struck directly from hubs...can anyone confirm if that's a true statement?
Nah. I was just unlucky enough to have caught an episode over the Christmas holidays when they started selling these and I found the link on line when I nearly choked looking at the price of them selling a set of these coins for +$4700
