Just got this in an email from NGC. https://www.ngccoin.com/news/article/13116/ MS67... seems kinda weird to give it a Sheldon grade. What are you gonna do, say nah and wait around for a higher graded one?
Yeah, that is weird. Who felt it needed to be slabbed? Are fakes going to start showing up on Alibaba Express?
NGC is playing the committee, trying to win a Nobel Prize itself, for the "audacity" of grading a Nobel Prize. Geez, you'd think they invented dynamite or something...
It's hard to imagine selling something like that, or buying it, but I can see the usefulness of the slab. Not really for the grade, of course, but for the guarantee of its being genuine for the buyer and for future owners. And yes, I can see the Chinese, North Koreans, or others trying to make a few dollars with fake Nobel prizes. How would you like to buy the Brooklyn Bridge, cheap?
Saw that email. Easiest way to get a Nobel prize is to buy it I guess. Sounds like this is the 5th one that's been auctioned? For me, personally, I wouldn't pay over melt. They are 18 karat gold, 175g. So $10,186 at today's spot price? That's a big hunk of gold.
