Looking at Ebay today and saw some NGC "pedigree" coins being sold. They were from the McClaren Collection. I'm going to go out on a branch and assume that NGC offer's a pedigree service. That is if a collection is noteworthy or historical, you can pay extra to have a name printed on the label? Could see how some “pedigrees” could command a premium by some people. Not saying that I’m going to go chase after them but if others want to, that’s their business.
This topic comes up from time to time. The following is an excerpt from the NGC website about pedigrees. http://www.ngccoin.com/about/consumer_awareness.aspx I believe that there is a cost associated with the pedigree service but I also remember hearing that they waive the fee if you have a top ranking set. I could be wrong about that however.
Thanks for the information. Speaking of regiestry sets. Do any of them offer a discount on gradding and slabbing if you reach a certin completion % of a set?
Some info about the McClaren collection, if you are interested. Legend Numismatics bought and is selling it: http://www.coinlink.com/News/press-...sition-of-the-35000-coin-mcclaren-collection/
