I know a lot of people have used NGC for grading/slabbing but has anyone used NCS for coin conservation services? In late October I sent 3 coins to them, one modern silver eagle for grading/slabbing and two ancients for conservation services only. When you submit coins you have to send a detailed submission form with them; I was very clear about what services I was requesting for each coin. I received my graded/slabbed silver eagle coin in mid December with no issues. However they still have my ancient coins and are completely clueless about what I was requesting. They sent me a billing statement for "grading and quality control" yet nothing regarding conservation which is why I sent the coins to them. I spent the past two weeks emailing back and forth trying to figure out what services they are or are not providing and questioning why I was being charged "grading and quality control" services if the coins are not being slabbed. Anyone else have this issue with NCS?
I found their customer service when you call to be very good. You may have to hold a few minutes, but every person I've spoken to has answered my questions fairly quickly.
If your invoice number was 6828875 (it's the only one to come through recently with 2 coins for NCS only), NCS services are not offered for coins that aren't also graded and holdered. NCS is not a stand alone service. Your invoice was marked as not eligible and any grading fees and NCS fees have been refunded. Your invoice was processed on 12/15 and is currently being held by accounting for an unpaid invoice or other accounting issue. Barry Murphy
Barry - you have told me more information in 5 seconds than the rest of the team has in the past 2 weeks; thanks. I called before I sent the ancient coins to see if I could use just the NCS services without slabbing and they told me yes just indicate it on the submission form. Apparently customer service isn't clear on what services can / cannot be provided. The unpaid invoice is a bit odd as I submitted the form with my credit card information for any unpaid expenses.
Call customer service and ask for accounting, they can straighten out the invoice. Glad I could help. Barry
