I'm working on building up my registry set for Jefferson Nickels 1938-1964. I'm going for 'Full Steps' for every year where possible and of course, toned for the most part.
I just sent off these guys. There should be some exciting results and certainly boost me up the Registry rung.

I welcome anyone's opinions. Unless they differ from mine of course. ;)

1941 D - I guess MS67★6FS or higher. It is the nicest nickel that has ever crossed my desk, and I've seen a lot... If any nickel I have (or ever will have) has a chance at 68, it's this one.

1943 S - I guess MS65★5FS - Spectacular rainbow. Not uncommon in higher grades, but this one is gorgeous and it's one of the first toners I acquired.

    1950 D
    - I guess MS66★5FS - Beautiful vivid color.

1958 - I guess MS65 5FS. This one is rare with full steps above MS64.

1938 S - I guess MS66+ or MS66+ 5FS. Colorful with wet luster. The steps are a little wavy, so I'm not sure how NGC will grade them.

1944 D - I guess MS67★5FS - This is one of the most gorgeous war nickels I have seen. Let's hope NGC agrees.

    1942 D - I guess MS67★5FS - Beautiful color.

1946 D - I guess MS66★5FS - Common with full steps through grades 66. A 67 from NCG would be very good news.

1953 S - I guess MS66★ - I'm not going to find the ultra rare FS anytime soon, so this guy should grade high and deserves a ★ for it's ridiculous luster and stunning eye appeal.

PCGS Crossover - show me the steps!

These went in for crossover. I am expecting all of them to crossover as 5 Full Steps. If they inherit the PCGS numeric grade, that would be spectacular news all around.

    1942 P Type 2 - PCGS MS67+

    1957 - PCGS MS66

    1945 P - PCGS MS66

    1947 S - PCGS MS66
    [IMG]
I already have the top pop all alone with a 1947 S MS67[IMG]5FS, which is this one:

    1938 D - PCGS MS66 - OGH - This one will most likely move up to a 67.

    1949 S - PCGS MS66
    [IMG]

    1952 S - PCGS MS66
    [IMG]

    1940 S - PCGS MS66+ - (scratches are on the holder)

    Thanks for looking.
I will update in 3-4 weeks with the grades.

Hi Yoda. Just been very busy with work and life and what not. That doesn't mean I didn't stop enjoying playing coins though. Things have slowed down so now I have a little time to hang with my coin buddies and preach the word of toners.

Wow!! Very nice Nickels. I need to pick up a couple as a Type coin, they sure are attractive with that rainbow toning. :)

    V. Kurt Bellman Yes, I'm blunt! Get over your "feeeeelings".

Not as long as it's a nickle, no. If it suddenly morphs into a nickel, perhaps.

@gbroke: The 1941-D and 1944-D are absolutely breathtaking. Superb! I don't think the 41-D will go 68 though...67 max, if NGC is having a crappy day 66. ;)

    beautiful coins!

The 1958 seems to have a small interruption in the steps just to the right of pillar 3

The 1945 and 47-S both have dings that interrupt steps

You may be right. Lets hope it isnt enough to void FS. That could be a $1000 interruption.

Every time I see people spell it this way, I say aloud, "Nick-Lay."
