Sorry if this issue has been talked on here yet, but here goes ..I was just reading about this. but how can ebay have a deal with NGC to have them authenticate coins from pictures when they cannot and refuse to remove obvious fakes from the site as it stands? how about removing the fake garbage first? so they are saying I can lose a sale on a coin because a picture isnt right and ngc profits from this.. I think they are setting themselves up for a possible lawsuit . Im currently trying to add a vcoins shop to distance myself from ebay they recently capped my listings because I had to cancel a few sales from some items that were sold at a show previously and I didnt update my inventory fast enough and they did this two weeks before Christmas! even with no complaints and 100% feedback i've really had it with them sorry for my rambling but felt I needed to say something. Please feel free to post a picture of any nice coin to make this a cheerier thread oh and yes have a merry Christmas everybody ! -MX
Merry Christmas, @MarcosX ! I’m going to have to read your post again. I’m still trying to take it in. I’m sorry to hear about your experience with eBay so close to the Holidays. I’ve only recently started using eBay for sales of some of my surplus coins. To date, I’ve only sold NGC Certified coins.
Thanks Deacon Ray, I had a buyer buy a bunch of coins at a show couple months ago he paid and took the coins in a big hurry and for that I wasnt able to log the coins #s in my journal so I was scratching my head later that day as to what he bought as they were pulled out of a flat price box, So when some of these coins were bought on ebay later I had to cancel the sales. Ebay has some sort of algorithm that spotted this and dinged me for it, I cant post anything new in my store until next month I am currently running a few coins on auction under an extra id Mx123455 for the meantime but I honestly dont have much motivation to do much more business with them. I guess Ill see how it goes ive had a shop there for a long time.
Ive attached pictures of Vandal coins above with palm trees on them for some warmth on this cold day.
It sounds like this was your own mistake due to lack of organization. I fail to see how that is eBay's problem. You agreed to their terms of service and didn't abide by them, and their customers were inconvenienced by it.
No it was not a lack of organization on my part because the guy left in a hurry. I turned around to grab a receipt and he was gone, who knows maybe he stole something as well I always mark all my sales down this is a one off event in years of sales I dont understand why they have to suspend any new listings it seems very petty to me.
I dont want to get too off track here, so back to my initial point why ebay can offer authentication service from NGC and still have so many fakes for sale any comments on this? -Mx
thats true I called and spoke to somebody and they thought I was nuts. might as well have talked to machine
they are shooting themselves in the foot and my items will posted for sale elsewhere so yes it is ebays problem.
Those are some interesting Judaean coins, @MarcosX . They look like Augustus period Ambibulus and/or Coponius prutot. Hendin 1328 and/or 1329.
those were found In Israel decades ago, I no longer have them, they were owned by a Professor at Loyola? If I recall and came with beautifully written dip ink pen tickets/envelopes. I love those old envelopes especially when they have darkened! those coins are usually attributed to Carthage they seem to show up in Israel / Levant and Egypt they are actually much smaller than a prutah or lepton I want to say struck around the time of Anastasius
I feel for you, but you should still maintain possession of the coins in a way the customer cannot get them until you're done with record keeping. Take the coins with you to go grab the receipt. Write everything down, then hand the coins to the customer with their copy of the receipt. It's really easy to get behind or make mistakes if you're not methodical about the process, and the consequences for that can be significant (as you found out the hard way).
Clearly you don't understand how the NGC Expert review works on Ebay. The simplest thing to do is don't sell fakes and you won't lose any sales. And based on this statement... you don't understand how NGC works. Barry Murphy
Maybe your right Barry I don't know how cng works because I've never needed them I've had 3 coins in many thousands ive sold come back to me on authenticity reasons. And I don't need anybody to tell me to not sell fakes I already don't and guarantee all my coins maybe just maybe you should tell that to ebay not me! ..your creating a villain out of the wrong person instead of the venue that allows fakes to be sold then charges people money to verify them! why not have somebody remove obvious documented fakes in the first place.? Oh wait ebay is only a mega cap on the nasdaq they probably can't afford it.
No ones making a villain out of anyone. You said "so they are saying I can lose a sale on a coin because a picture isnt right and ngc profits from this.." That just isn't how it works. What's your ebay name? Barry Murphy
At one time ebay used to investigate and remove fake coins. They no longer do this. Presumably because they were hurting their own profits.
