OK, newb question, but is it possible to see pictures of coins in the NGC census the way it is on the PCGS site?

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

If you go to each coin's page in the Coin Explorer, they've got pictures linked from the Registry.

If you go to the certification verification, they've got images they took.

"If you go to each coin's page in the Coin Explorer, they've got pictures linked from the Registry."

This is true. However, unless I am overlooking something, the Coin Explorer feature is US-centric and offers little assistance (that I can detect) to the collector seeking information on coins from other countries. NGC does have a world coin section, but photos of many of the more interesting coin types listed are missing (in any condition) from the price guide.

"If you go to the certification verification, they've got images they took."

This is also true, but to see the coin, you have to know the certificate number and the assigned grade. Without having that information, it is rather difficult to see the coin. If there are ways around these limitations for non-US coins, they have so far eluded me.

If anyone knows a way around these apparent limitations, please do post it. Thanks!

Is there some reason you want to see the NGC census coins specifically ? I mean, is there something special about them or do you just want to see decent pictures of the various coin types found there ?

They limit how many you can look up in a certain time by cert too. They really need to get rid of all that nonsense and open it back up like the pcgs one.

I guess I don't know how the PCGS census works differently, then. I don't go over there.

Yes, I like to see rare coins of the dark side variety mainly. Nothing sinister about it. Of course, I like to see nice quality pictures of my own submissions also; think I've paid out enough over the years to see something of the sort. On PCGS you look up the census of a particular date and frequently the nicest (up to three) specimens are shown. Very nice for informal research also.

    And that answers my question.

I asked the question because if all you wanted to do was to be able to look up or find nice pictures of any specific coin type there are many other ways of doing so besides looking at the NGC or PCGS census coins. But - you have a specific reason for wanting to see pictures of specific coins, namely your own. So there is no other alternative for you.

That said, for as long as I can remember the TPGs have always treated world coins kind of like the ugly redheaded stepchild when it comes to even adding them to their census, or updating the census numbers for world coins, let alone providing pictures of them. I have seen them go months or even years without updating the census for world coins. And sometimes coins are not added to it at all - not ever.

The point being that even of you had access, your coins might not even be there.

The NGC world census has photos for many coins to represent the type. At present, about twenty of the coins I've sent in have been selected by NGC for representing the type in the census. It's nice because you can see the high resolution photos they took of your coin, so it's worth checking to see if they've used one or not. They will not notify you if they do this.
