Couple of new additions to my collection. I liked the portrait on trajan as well as Spes and it was cheap. Val II I liked for the same reasons. First of its type for me. It looks much better in hand and my favorite LRB buy as of late. Trajan (98 - 117 A.D.) AR Denarius O: IMP TRAIANO AVG GER DAC P M TR P, Laureate bust right, slight drapery on left shoulder. R: COS V P P S P Q R OPTIMO PRINC, Spes walking left, flower in right, raising hem of skirt. Rome 3.5g 20mm SRCV II 3127, RIC II 127, RSC II 84 Valentinian II (375 - 392 A.D.) AE2 O N VALENTINIANVS P F AVG, rosette-diademed, helmeted, draped and cuirassed bust right holding spear and shield. R:Valentinian II standing facing, head right, in galley, raising right hand, Victory at helm, wreath left, T in left field, cross in right, ANT[...] in ex. Antioch 5.6g 21.8mm RIC IX 59b
Nice ... both coins have great eye appeal, but both for completely different reasons (please tell them that my "pool is always open")
Love the Trajan for sure, but I'm really intrigued with the Valentinian II. Very, very nice. Two thumbs up for sure! :thumb::thumb:
Its funny but the more I look at the Val II in hand I like it more then the trajan, shame the photo isnt showing how much better it is.
I agree Mat. I really like Val II. The Trajan is nice, but if given the option of buying one or the other, at this moment I would likely buy the Val II.
I have a few coins like that - when I post pics I always think...I wish I could show them just how good this coin really looks.
Sweet additions Mat! Yeah Valentinian II have some nice coins that have a but more appeal that other LRB
Where do you draw the line for LRB's ???? Severus Alexander ?? Domitan ??? Constantine the Great ??? Theodosius
