Latest addition to my collection is of Saloninus. I had every family member but him but what really drew me to the coin is the circulated cameo it has. Saloninus (258 - 260 A.D.) AR Antoninianus O: SALON VALERIANVS CAES, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right. R: PIETAS AVG, priestly implements - littus, knife, jug, simpulum, and sprinkler. Rome 4.3g 21.1mm RIC V 9, RSC IV 41
That is a decent looking coin. I own two Saloninus coins. One from Lugdunum and one from Samosata. I have a meeting this morning, but I will post images later. Good pickup. Congrats

Saloninus, eh? (I haven't heard too much about this cowboy) ... Ummmm, what is the story with him? ... was he a good guy, a bad guy? ... was he murdered by his mother, brother, or did he live happily ever after?
The Son of Gallienus (the one with the zoo coins Steve ), Salonius, was murdered at 18 by the Upsurper Postumus.
I remain as confused as I was when I wrote my page on this family. Would someone who believes they are in the know care to ID this coin and comment on my page? http://www.forumancientcoins.com/dougsmith/feac68sal.html Bing's Numiswiki post was written in 1889 by Seth Stevenson. Not all of us accept much it says.
Interesting information on your Forum page, Doug. There is information there I was not aware of to say the least. So then, I assume your question of the id of the above coin is answered on the display on that page. Interesting!
I have a Saloninus, 22 x 24 mm, 2.88 g, struck off-center on a very thin & large flan (< 1mm) Obv.: SAL VALERIANVS CS radiate and draped bust right Rv.: PRINC IVVENT Saloninus standing facing, head left, holding baton and transverse spear; signum to right RIC V Saloninus 10, Göbl MIR 36, 939z; RSC (Cohen) 61; Sear 10770 This is really confusing because Numismatics.org and wildwinds say for the same RIC number that it was minted in Lugdunum (Lyon), e.g. http://numismatics.org/ocre/id/ric.5.sals.10 but entries in acsearch say some were minted in Cologne (e.g. https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=76309 other entries say Mediolanum or Viminacium (e.g. https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=363118) How can one know where it was minted? Or is it uncertain and just a question of picking the source reference you believe in most? (a question of faith?) Very grateful for any insights to lift my confusion
Fantastic coin Mat. Don't have him yet, though I recently got his mom from Stevex6. PS: thread revived from 2013?
