Here are the newest ones: Other than the pin scratch on the 1852(which is easier to see in the picture than with a glass). On these pictures I used the same lighting - and yet the 1852 looks washed out. It is funny how pictures can hi-lite a little flaw, or hide other flaws.
Mark, Congrats on the new additions -- particularly that '22. What a great coin!!! While I like the mellowed red coloration, I must admit that the pinscratch and the mottled/spotted look of the reverse bother me. With '52 being a common date, it should not be difficult to find one beter. However, if you like it, then I say enjoy it in good health and ignore my opinion, which in the end doesn't matter. Thanks for sharing & respectfully submitted...Mike
Actually I must have take 50/60 shots of that 1852, and for the life of me I could not get the lighting correct. It is actually my 3rd 1852. With my eye piece I know where to look to see the scratch, but it is no where near as noticeable as my picture makes it out. When I get home I will attach a 10x snap shot of the area. All-in-all I am pleased with all three of 1852's. I am sure I will get more 1852 varieties(and others) while shopping around.
You could say so - I have not exactly decided what the set will consist of. Currently I have about 80 large cents. Some were upgrade and some are just different varieties, etc.. Not sure where it is heading yet. The 4 key dates I need are 1793's, 1799, 1804 and 1796(Draped Bust). The other 4 or 5 dates I need I just have not seen one that I want to own. So the quest goes on!!
pretty nice large cents! i think i am going to by a worn one at the flea market next time i go just to say i have one!
Go for it! Everyone needs a large cent or two in their collection. I am off to the coin store to see what I can get.
Now to see what the new pictures look like of the 1852. These I think look more like the coin! It must have been the angle of the light hitting the scratch - you have to work with a 10x loop to see it.
I bought a couple of large cents recently and I have to say I think it is officially my 2nd favorite coin after the silver dollar. They are just neat.
