Here we go: Neither are perfect they both have some - pin type scratches on them. The 1810(S-282) in the front of Liberty's head and the 1817(N-15) on the reverse around one cent. Neither are distracting to the coins appearance in hand. These are my first two purchases from Tom Deck(www.largecents.net). The first two I purchase were lost in the mail - Tom went out of his way in assisting to get the insurance claim taken care of. I keep getting coins like this and I will continue to purchase from him. My second order will be in the mail tomorrow( 1822 and 1852).
Nice ! Especially that 1810. I love large cents, but only have two. I'm having trouble finding the "nice price"... particularly on those Classic Heads.
Check out Tom's web site I think his are reasonable priced. I will tell you this - when he sends out an updated list of new coins- some of them are gone before you know it. There is an 1810 for 30 bucks(I think is very reasonable) that looks like a good planchet. I check his web site (he has a great personal collection also) almost as much as ebay - research or looking to see what he has.
Why did they ditch that design ? The Matron Head is not so good. Back in those days, the mint tended to switch designs on all denominations at about the same time. They kept the Classic Head on half cents until the late 1830's... why not the large cent ? Anybody know the history on that ?
