First off let me say a warm HELLO to all here. Im glad I found this place. I have recently came across a 2000 Virginia State quarter that I believe is a copper wash error. Can I trouble some of you experts out there to verify this for me and let me know if this is a common error ? Please let me know if I am correct and a possible value ? Check out the pictures & Many Thanks.
Welcome to the forum. Well, it certainly looks promising to me, but I'm by no means an expert. I don't know if it's authentic though because similar "copper wash" effect can be created by dipping a copper coin in acetone and then dipping a clad into it. I did this once out of curiousity eek, and came up with a Georgia quarter which looked remarkably similar to yours.
Can you get a weight?...it looks kindof dark....but then maybe that is just the lighting...I would think luster would show through and make it look better....wait around and I'm sure Mike or Bill will be by to help! Speedy
It looks promising, especially if it retains original mint luster. As to value, it seems to vary all over the place. I just sold a BU Maryland quarter with copper wash on eBay and it brought only $6.50.
I viewed the recently sold items on ebay & found a similar one that sold for 51$ . Although I think mine may be a higher grade. I have this one for sale on Ebay right now. I hope it brings a good price. Knowing my luck it won't. 3 days and still no bids 10 watchers though.:smile
