Hello, I'm looking up the value of some pennies. I looked in the Numismatic guide and I saw 1955/55 bn. I know the BN stands for brown, does the 1955/55 stand for double stamped? Thanks
It wasn't doubled stamped ( struck), but instead the die used had been produced with doubling, thus making such a cent a Doubled die cent. ( The die was doubled , and not the strike ). That in itself makes it different and more of a rarity. The doubling is so extensive, it makes for a high desirability. Here is a shot of the date, notice that each image is about the same height, not one high and the other flattened, which indicated machine doubling damage, not a doubled die. Jim
