Well hello everyone! I've been enjoying reading all the posts, and find it very interesting. I am new to the hobby and have been diligently searching all of my (and my family members) coins. I have found a few very minor errors, but haven't found any good stuff (DDO or DDR or RRM's). I am wondering, how do you all do it? Do I go get new uncirculated rolls from the bank? Should I buy from the mint? Should I look though older circulated coins? I would be interested to see how you've had the best luck finding errors. I've looked through a couple thousand coins, I'd say. Going to go look though a couple thousand more! -S
New rolls are, in general, not a very good way to find double dies. What you really want is Lincoln cent rolls from the 60's and 70's - they are the cheapest, and have lots of varieties.
Search it all but the best source is BU rolls and Proof and Search it all but the best source is BU rolls and Proof and mint sets from the late 50's to about 1989. But first you should buy The Cherry Picker's Guild and learn more about what you are searching for. You can find die varieties in anything from circulated wheat cents to circulated memorial cents or other coins but by searching mint state stuff if you find something it's going to be nice.
