Is there a place to buy New Zealand currency direct from the NZ mint? I did a search online, and I found a NZ mint, but, it's not the official mint. My wife is a Kiwi, and I would love to get her a set of coinage and possibly bills from her homeland. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
The New Zealand mint is a private bullion company. Generally, the Royal Mint or Canadian Mint produces coins for NZ. However, try this site to purchase sets: http://stamps.nzpost.co.nz/Cultures/en-NZ/Coins/CurrentIssues/ The Reserve Bank of NZ's site, with info on coin mintages, etc is: http://www.rbnz.govt.nz/currency/
Thanks Andyscouse, I don't know how I missed that in my searching... I also didn't realize NZ had so many different versions of their currency... Now I just have to figure out which set she would like the best
You're very welcome! It seems (I didn't know this until I read the site) that NZ coins had shrunk in the same way that the 5p/10p coins did in 1990/92 and the 50p did in 1997 in the UK ... I do like the NZ designs though - very distinctive, and I hope you find a set for her!
New Zealand Post is the "official" distributor since there is no national mint in NZ. http://stamps.nzpost.co.nz/Cultures/en-NZ/Coins Euro Collections sometimes has some NZ products (mostly recent): http://www.eurocollections.com/ or their sister site Downies: http://www.downies.com/
