I've got several QE II coins myself (one NZ, one british honduras and the rest are pence), so the info would be help to me also Thanks, John
John,as I am from New Zealand,I can tell you that this coin is commemorating Queen Elizabeth II's Coronation. This coin trades for anything up to NZ$10.It is the odd one out in the Crowns (5 Shillings),as it is a cupro-nickel coin. Aidan.
Aidan, is there any connection between William of Orange and New Zealand (apart from yourself that is)?
Ianthere's is no connection between King Billy & New Zealand at all.I don't think that King Billy would have even heard of New Zealand. Aidan.
Ian,King Billy was Dutch, but he was a Stuart through his mother.King Billy's coins are an interesting series to collect, but the William & Mary issues, especially the silver,is generally quite difficult to find. The most interesting William & Mary coin I have is a 1692 Scots silver 40/- piece. Aidan.
Have you had that 40/- checked to see that its real yet Aidan? Do you have an image of your one that you can post? Where did the name for New Zealand come from?
Ian,I had the 40/- coin checked out when I bought it.It is definitely a real one.I paid around NZ$150 for it a few years back.As to posting photos,I haven't yet got the facilities to take photos. As to the origin of New Zealand's name,it is derived from the name of the Dutch province of Zeeland, although there is an island in Denmark called Zealand. Its name was given by Abel Tasman in 1642,for whom the Tasman Sea was named after. Aidan.
Ah...... So there is a connection between William of Orange and New Zealand then. The Dutch connection.
I know the correct response has already been given but I have to let Thalia Elizabeth answer: "It's the Coronation Crown! I have it in my Queen Elizabeth exhibit!"
