New Zealand: 1953 proof copper-nickel crown, Coronation issue of Elizabeth II

    PCGS PR65 DCAM. Cert. #44656196.

    Numista-13916, Krause-Mishler-30.

    Diameter: 38.61 mm. Weight: 28.28 g. Mintage: 7,000.

Issued for the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, who began her 70-year reign in 1953.

I mentioned to my friend Michael, who is a coin dealer, that a relative of mine had had a DNA test done and we discovered to everyone's surprise that we apparently have a tiny trace of Māori ancestry in us! I already had a nice 1881 New Zealand token with a Māori warrior on it. And continuing the New Zealand theme, Michael gave me this proof Coronation crown as a Christmas gift in 2024. It has very nice Deep Cameo contrast.

Ex-Michael Swoveland, dba WNC Coins, LLC (gift). December 2024.
