They sent me a catalog in the mail for some reason and they have some interesting stuff...like notgeld...but the notgeld coins seem high...in fact a lot of the stuff seems high..look at this: 29.95 for this? I get better coins in uncleaned lots for a few bucks!!this is worth less than 5 bucks I love this coin but is 289 pretty steep? these 2 coins for 37.00...that seems reasonable? They have cofederate money and interesting US bills from Vietnam with a woman on it: 40.00 dont know...the site gave me a few ideas I might want to get but I think maybe I could get ceaper.
The two dutch coins are a SCAM....You can get the silver ones for about $20 in XF and the copper ones for less than $10 in XF....the coins in the photo is going to be the top examples the people have, and they don't specify grade anywhere....caveat emptor.....
I chose the 1996 Gibraltar NCLT Elvis Presely coin at random, and checked Krause. They are offering an Unc "six for the price of five" special at $64.75. Krause which is generally high on NCLT lists it at $7.75 (6 for $46.50). You betcha it's a caveat emptor situation. Even smarter would be an "emptor not"! approach.
The Lincoln commemorative half cost about 175.00 in MS 63. Did they state what grade it would be? Lou
they dont state grades on hardly anything. The fact that they are selling a constantius common copper that appears to have been zapped (or very harshly cleaned) and is almost featureless for 30 dollars when you can buy a pretty good example with full detail and patina for around 10-20 dollars threw up a red flag and as I looked through, lots of the coins seem very high priced. Thing is, they have some things that I didnt even know existed like the vietnam bills so I took note of a few things I would search for at a better price. The notgeld seems expensive as well...I bought the same 10000 coin for 27 dollars in almost mint condition and they are selling the same thing but in poorer condition for something like 50 dollars. The bills are reasonable but they dont say what bills you get and I already have a lot of them and would need to pick and choose.
A "mint" in New York? Even the city name will put me off as it's a city that's well known for it's ultra high cost of living so they gotta price their goods very high!
The Vietnam bills are military payment notes issued to our troops. You can find them going as far back as WW II. Also Germany issued payment notes to their troops during WW II. Lou
they have the WWII military notes there as well...I do want to see about getting some of those...I will price out different sources. The vietnam notes are very ineresting looking.
Check eBay for the MPC (Military Payment Certificates). You can usually find them pretty cheap. Usually these catalogs have some stuff that's neat & interesting, but way over priced.
Here's some info on the Military Payment Certificates (MPC). The various series of MPC replaced each other with no advance warning , and the scrip, exchangeable only by those to whom its issue was authorized, could become worthless overnight. The MPC replacement notes, analogous to the star notes in regular US currency, are designated by the lack of a suffix letter in the serial number. They are especially sought after by collectors. Lou
