Well - they are better, but it still does not show the luster that a camera would. As it is I am sorry but I am not any good at grading peace dollars, but the details do look nice on the coin.

the images are washed out from the reflective scanner - no luster and many details are muted. i would not venture a guess at a grade without better images. taking pictures of coins is difficult - i've tried very hard and decided it wasn't worth my effort - not for my crappy coins ;)

ok, i will venture a guess - XF/AU - there is a nasty dim ding on the reverse.

    Ryan....

I bet if you ask him, (Doug) will tell you about how you can adjust the lie angle of the coin to show luster when scanning a coin....he and several others will help I am sure! For me a flat 2 dimentional images is cool..I mostly collect paper money...LOL

Nice scan!! and dang nice coin!

Man, getting better! Keep working on it, taking decent pics of coins is real difficult, and (atleast for me) it varies from coin to coin, series to series. ;) Best of luck to you. :thumb:

It's easy Ryan. The next time you want to scan a coin, place 2 of those 2x2 holders on top of each other on the scanner bed first. Then take the coin, in its holder like the one you pictured here, and lay the edge of the 2x2 with the coin it on top of the edge of the other 2x2's. This holds your coin at a slight angle to the scanner. Then just go ahead and scan it like ya always would. You'll get better results ;)

Just remember, scanning through the plastic layer of a 2x2, as thin as it is, will still affect the image.
    Camera is still better.
But for any use except selling (when you want the best image possible) you're doing okay.

I take my better coins out of a 2x2 or flip when I image them.
Only thing I absolutely image through are slabs. And they are another whole problem.

I scanned per Doug's direction two ASE's. The blue item is 1/8" thick, therefore the edge of one ASE capsule is resting at an angle and the other ASE is flat on the glass of the scanner. I believe there is a difference in the image for the better! What do you all think:

Either that or the one on the left has a stronger strike.

You gotta hate those dim dings! Especially if you get some Ding Dong on your dim ding. ;)

i read that a few times and couldn't figure out why it seemed odd - haha - dim dings are the worst.
