Got a tough one recently, a 1968-S Inverted Mintmark, FS-511, PR65 PCGS (but looks better to me). Hm-m-m, maybe this one should go in for Secure Plus? PCGS Pop 2, 3 finer.

I'm still looking for that '72-D No FG ... :computer:

well I dont think its worthless, quite honestly I feel thats pretty rude. Here the OP is excited he found a coin he had been searching for and you call his thread worthless.

To the OP congrats!!!How long you been searching? It would be cool to see some pics!!!

    thanks

It's basic forum talk, hence why it has a smiley. It's one way to request pictures of something being discussed.

Thanks for your opinions ... all of you. Honestly, you might remember that not all of us are especially computer-literate. I am also not the best photographer in the world, so posting pictures is a double challenge. I have a website where I am slowly posting photos of some of my nicer pieces, just for display--and this is not a commercial! It is an explanation ... it's easier to post them there, because I know the technique. But it all takes time, n'est-ce pas?

I think it might be a bit abrupt to say this thread is "worthless" without pictures ... but I agree that pictures would increase its worth! :mouth:

Regarding the specific coin, yes I am getting down to the short hairs on the Complete Kennedy Varieties, Business Strikes and Proof, so the coins are getting quite hard to come by, and expensive when found! I currently have 186 of the 203 entries in the set ... with the clad and silver proof 2009-S coins on the way, I will be down to 188/203. Peace.

    giorgio,

The "TTIWWP" wasn't intended to be anything snide or sarcastic. It is used lightheartedly on other forums all of the time.

It sounds like you are really having fun with the Kennedy's. Does your set include varieties?

I've got 4 of the FS-103 raw that I will be sending to NCS for conservation (small milk spots) and on to NGC for grading.

Do you have the 1982-P "No FG" with the obverse clash? I have one, but it's a raw AU. The clash is pretty cool. The rays appear at the base of his neck and under the chin.

No, I don't have the 1982 No FG because PCGS doesn't require it for the Complete Variety Set. So far. I even asked Bill Fivaz, when I saw him in Chattanooga, why it wasn't in Cherrypickers' either, but I didn't get a clear answer. I think the 1982 No FG is from a grease-filled die, is it not, whereas the 1972-D No FG is a true error rather than a die state. This is just my impression without a lot of research ... 19Lyds? Others?

PS cpm9ball is the clashing on all of the 1982-P No FGs? Cool coin, thanks for sharing.
PPS I looked at the Sticky for posting photos. Sheesh. Three pages of do this, try this, maybe this will work, I'm lost, I can't do this ... Anybody feel like a concise guide, you techie boys?

The 1982-P "No FG" is listed in James Wiles' Kennedy book as ADR-001 and is cross-referenced to Breen 5323. The designer's initials have been adraded away and is not the result of a grease-filled die. I believe the one I have is a "Stage B" MDS which is listed as unconfirmed. The reason I believe that it is an MDS is because the LDS lists the bottom of the "1" of the date as abraded away which has not yet happened on my coin. This listing also cites both obverse and reverse clashing, but I don't see any reverse clashing on mine.

I don't know if the clashing is found on all 1982-P missing the designer's initials, but I also have one with the clashing that has "plugged" tailfeathers.

    Giorgio,

Here is another Kennedy error. I don't know if I've shown you this before, but I'll bet you don't have one.

I sure don't! Too cool for school!

I have the Wiles book and looked up the 1982-P No FG. Lots of abrading on both sides, including the bottom of the R of LIBERTY and the bottom of 1 in the date. More reasons than ever for it to be in the Complete Variety Set! Folks, if you love Kennedy varieties, the Wiles book is indispensable, alongside Cherrypickers. The book is called The Kennedy Half Dollar Book--An Attribution and Pricing Guide, by James Wiles, Ph.D., published in 1998, second printing 2002. It does include a lot of the CONECA varieties that are unlisted in Cherrypickers' and/or not included in the PCGS Complete Variety Set.

My copy of the Wiles book is a publisher's proof copy which was given to me my J.T. Stanton.

Here are some other Kennedy's with the inserts signed by JT. Can you tell that I like Kennedy's, too?
