Ok, well usually i am all for the coins. Recently i have been eyeing paper currency since gold and all is getting to the point of no return (i still buy A LITTLE silver. ase, silver bars, art bars...). I came across this note on ebay and honestly i am a sucker for anything with historic significance so i bought it because it was not overly expensive, and it was more of an impulse buy because i saw it probably within the last 2 minutes of the auction and just went with it.

Anyhow, the seller did not have a picture of the reverse so this is all i went off of. I did a little research and kept coming up with 1862 3 dollar bills, but no 1866. I know a couple of "faker than a 3 dollar bill" jokes will ensue here but it does look cool nonetheless and really would not bother me as i paid practically nothing im going to miss for it. Any info or finger pointing will be appreciated, i usually am a silent type because i read alot of these threads and other imformational material so questions usually dont get asked alot as i find the info i need somewhere on the webs.

Anywho, this would mark my 1st post that actually had some meat to it, and no i did not join because i did not know what i bought or needed to know value, i bought this note yesterday as a matter of fact and i am really a coin guy. even though paper currency is out of my comfort zone i do enjoy old and historic money of any kind! What would a fellow like me enjoy collecting in paper currency, any suggestions. i know i like over the top designs and a lot of detail. One bill that does intrigue me is the 1899 silver certificate, anything with detail like that would tickle my fancy, suggestions would be appreciated!!!:D

That's a nice one Thinn. Did you try to research the signer of the note? It might give a little history on the piece as well as on him.

Thanks Bruce..... Is the signer of note R. Tyler? My eyes are playing tricks on me, wish i had a better photo.

Edit: N/M just did my google search on it..... John Tylers son! That was worth it! Thanks for the heads up

Great information Thinn!. I research almost anything I buy because knowing something about a piece in your collection gives added meaning to it. Congrats on a very nice pickup.

Thinn, I actually have a few of the exact same bond coupon you posted in this thread. They generally were printed in sheets and then could be cut based upon how many were being purchased. They would sometimes cut them sloppily, but yours looks pretty nice.

As for value, I have been looking for a while to ascertain the value of this coupon. I had some coin/currency dealers look for me as well, and they could not find anything on the $3. If you ask me, they're genuine (they look like it), but without finding additional info so far, I cannot guarantee it.

Please let me know if you find anything else about these!!

That is a nice note, worth about $40 or so bucks in todays money...Assuming it was cashed in, cause we lost the war in '65 LOL
