    Hi
I mostly collect coins specializing in Morgan Dollars.

Paper Money is a wide field. Do you like the older "Large Size" notes? There are a number that are relativly cheap such as the 1899 "Black Eagle" $1.00 Silver Cetrtificate. The $1.00 and $2.00 Series 1917 Legal Tender notes are affordable. You can find very nice notes for under $150.

Small size notes are another story. Small size notes are the ones we use today. I would avoid anything I did not know was rare. Avoid Circulated Silver Certificates (Blue Seal), Circulated US Notes (Red Seal) and most Federal Reserve Notes (Green Seal) You MUST buy a currency book, to get a handle on what is what with currency......

Remember, you can do anything you want with your money as long as it suits you. I am pretty good in the field of small size notes.

BZCOLLEKTOR, why, may I ask, should we avoid Silvers, Reds, and Green seals? For those of us who like small sizes, what else is there?!

I would disagree with BZCOLLECTOR on avoiding circulated notes, unless your budget far exceeds mine. But a book and/or price guide is essential to determine fair values for what you buy. And buy the best condition note for the price you want to spend. Some small-sized notes can be very cheap even in UNC, or very expensive in circulated grades, depending on date, type, and condition. You may want to collect "star" notes, Experimental series, Hawaii or North Africa notes, "funnybacks", or other types. Look for something that interests you, and buy it.

I gave my advice to to someone who said "I never checked a bill"

To someone who admitted that they don`t have a clue, I can only say "Do not buy
circulated Silver Certificates, and US Notes. Period. Unless you have some knowledge and a modicum of expertise in grading, you have no bussiness buying circulated small size notes. The TV guys sell common circulated SC`s and US notes for like 10 times face. To people who don`t know any better. Seen the same at flea markets.... some moron asking another moron to pay $20 for a VG 1957A SC...... worth about $2.25
