I am new to this forum so I am not sure if this is the right section to ask this question. I have a 1974 misprinted $50 dollar bill that is in really good shape. the seals and serial numbers are offset to the right. I have a picture but it is not the greatest. If necessary, I will take another one. I also have a $10 dollar Federal Reserve Note that is dated 1928-B and it is from Chicago. Its a darker green. Also it is in Excellent condition. Any ideas what this could be worth also? thanks
First off welcome to the forum. The $50 note is sweet. I have a similar $10 note shifted to the left. It's hard to put a certain value on these types of notes but I will tell you that a MAJOR error dealer said he would pay $200 for my $10 note. Don't know that yours would go for 20 times face value but bet at least $500 to the right buyer. Could be more could be less but definitely worth keeping! clembo
That is a very nice note and yes, clearer pics would be nice to see. The off-set is substantial and the notes value to an error collector would be nice as well. If that note has no major paper breaks or harsh center folds, it appears it would go AU or better, thas why I ask for better pics. Very nice note you have there. RickieB
I'm having trouble trying to decide if it's AU or UNC. I can see what looks like a fold at the to of the note, but I can't tell if it runs the length of the note or if it's just a counting crease. If that is an actual fold, then your note would be About Uncirculated and that's the condition you would use to find comparison values. If it's just a counting crease (it cannot run too far into the note to count as that), then your note is a low end Uncirculated and you can use UNC as the condition when looking for comparison values. THat is a nice note and would definitely be welcome in my collection. Congrats on the find. As for the $10, the older FRN's don't go for much unless they are in Uncirculated Condition (or are scarce). A scan would someone give you help in determining an estimate on value.
somethig about the note that doesnt look real... the paper, the color.. not really sure. Either way. nice offset!
It came from a bank in the late 70's. My mom worked there and happened to see this so she put her $50 in exchange for this $50. The camera I was took the picture with isn't the greatest so maybe thats why it looks different?
could be. im not saying it is fake. it just looked funny tis a very nice note, regardless of current value. its value to you with it being from your mom is priceless!!! and the over print offset is amazing!
I think this would go as a solid AU. The wave you see in the paper id more than likely from teller handling, counting. As mentioned, nice off set. I see some rounding of the corners as well as several teller handling marks. Put it in my lar and send it off to PMG I think it will come back a solid AU RickieB
I can't tell from the pic if there's any rounding of the corners. A good scan would be needed for that. No matter what you do with it OP, pick up a mylar holder (should be less than $1 at a coin dealer that stocks them) and put the note in it. This would prevent any further mishandling marks and any further potential rounding of the corners. Rounding of the corners will certainly knock the note down to AU even it otherwise would be a solid CU. Thanks for sharing.
As far as I can see, it is a major error in that TWO printings are shifted - the black offset and the green offset. I would imagine that this woudl increase the value. I am no expert on grading, but it seems to me there are far too many tiny issues for this to be UNC. I would say AU.
