New to Ancients. What are these?

Discussion in 'Ancient Coins' started by TheSilverpicker, Jun 14, 2019.

  1. I am a long time numismatist but have never really gotten into Ancients.

I just received these coins and I'm curious to know a bit about the history, geography, rarity, and value of these coins.

Any insight would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

The coins in the middle row and bottom row in your 2nd photo are late roman bronzes. The middle one looks like Valens (364-378 A.D.) to me and the bottom one looks like Constantius II (337-361 A.D.). The slabbed coin appears to be Constantine. They are not valuable and in bulk these things go for perhaps a dollar or two in that condition. However, you can still enjoy them for the historical angle in that you are holding a 1600+ year old coin in your hand.

I add, both on top are two solidus of IOAN CASIMIR, you can look them up. They are some sort of emergency coin due to inflation between 1660-1668 (if I recall correctly).
