Hi here is a new sample a friend of mine found in an antique store,
It is an older slab which is great, as the are getting harder to find.
This does show what I have been saying in my article, look in coin store junk bins, and even antique stores.
Many times the store owner has no idea what a sample is and just want to get rid of it.
I also have more on the way and will post them when they arrive

Although this lists the ANA convention on it, this was a true sample slab that was handed out by PCI at the convention in 93. It is still a fairly early sample for PCI in this style of holder, the first ones being distributed in 1991. This was probably shortly before they changed the number of digits in the serial number but I can't guarantee that.

    Hi CCMint
That is why they picked up the nickname "rattlers".
It is a fine example of the very early PCGS sample slabs.
I hope you enjoy your sample, it is a keeper.

Thanks Alan. One quick question for a slab noob like me. What exactly is the difference between regular and sample slabs?

    Hi CCMint
I think you mean the difference between a sample slab, and an advertising slab.
They are just that, a sample slab is produced to show a new style slab or even a change to the lable.
Where as a advertising slab is produced to promote an event of some sort.

But both are fun to collect and the hobby is growing.
In some cases slabs can be produced in a little as 50 for an event or luncheon.
And that my friend is the short version in the difference between the two slabs.

If I can help anymore just holler.

I'm not sure but I believe he meant what is the difference between a sample slab and a regular production slab.
