Okay this one is more like a three-quarters cent. I bought it on Ebay listed as dateless for just under $14.

So this one is actually rare. Given the condition of the coin, as well as the fact that Marshall is on a hiatus, and I will spare you guys the attribution contest. It is a 1796, Reverse of 1795 Sheldon-99, which is an R-5 variety. The remaining reverse detail narrows it down to either S-99 or NC-4, and the remaining portion of the date matches that of S-99 (date spaced 1-7-96, 6 not touching bust). My first R-5 large cent. Woohoo!

So yeah. I will take all the R-5 Sheldons I can get for $14 each in any grade, and I will also take all the 1796 Draped Bust cents I can get for $14 each in any grade. Getting both at the same time? Well I’ll gladly take that. Graysheet on this variety is $400 in AG, and this one is worth… well does it really matter? It’s one of about 50 known. And it’s probably the “bottom pop” as well.

Takes a special kind of collector to appreciate something like this… but for what I paid, I like it. Think it’s cool. How do you feel… trash or treasure?
