New Philip I

    Egads, another Tet! This one is from Warren awhile back. Out of the few he had, I liked this one best. Mainly for the dark toning.

    Egypt, Alexandria
    Billion Tetradrachm
    O:A K M IOV ΦIΛIΠΠOC EVC, laureate and draped bust right.
    R: L-Δ, Elpis standing left wearing long chiton and peplos, holding up flower in right hand and with left hand raising skirt of chiton behind. Year 4 = 246-247 AD

    Alexandrian portraits of Philip start somewhat harsh and become more normal over time. Here are years 1,3,4 and 6.

    Mat, that is a decent tet and it makes me sad. I don't have a tet of Philip I. So, just cause I can I will post this nice AE30 from Antioch:

    I don't have a tet of Philip, so I'll have to post this antoninianus:

    Obv.: IMP PHILLIPVS AVG; Radiate, draped, cuirassed bust right, from behind.
    Rev.: P M TR P IIII COS II PP; Felicitas standing left, long caduceus in right hand, cornucopia in left.
    Refs: RIC 5; Cohen 137; RCV 8946 var. (obv. legend).

    And as for tetradrachms? I have this one from Antioch depicting his wife:
