I picked these up recently, realizing this will be as close as I will ever get to owning the real thing...
Without doubt, it is one of the most striking notes ever engraved. The Beauty and strength of this note represented "America" a young Country during it rise and growth to power. Never again shall we have this level of Artistry within our banknote designs. Thanks for sharing that pennywise...they are simply beautiful notes..hold one if you get the chance. RickieB
Maybe, after I hit the Lotto.... and also to Connor, I didn't mean to infringe on your avatar :high5:
You are talking about reverse, right (two American figures on each note of edicational series)? Because the obverse represents Electricity presenting light to the world.
vrt...of course I know what the Central Vignette represents, that vignette was adapted from a painting by Walter Shirlaw, which still hangs within the halls of the BEP. The other portions of that design were performed by Thomas F. Morris and the notes was engraved by G.F.C. Smilie.... the female head on the reverse is said to resemble Morris's wife and was also engraved by Smilie..the remainging vignettes of Grant and Sherman were engraved by Hatch... My point was the note represents Strength and Growth of our Country during it's ascent to power....something we no longer have! In todays notes we are lacking that certain pride, power and strength. Regards, RickieB
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing. I fear both our coins and currency are severely lacking in artistry these days. What was the phrase Teddy Roosevelt used? Oh yeah ... "of atrocious hideousness"!
No Infringement I love that note ,cropped it out of the same BEP SO. Card(couldn't use the playboy stock cert.avatar anyway :smile ) Vignette from the back of the $5 Educational Series just as beautiful.
very nice! I love those Silver certs from that issue. I have the $1, but doubt i will ever own any of the higher denoms lol maybe someday, but i wont hold my breath.
It would be stupid of me even assume you didn't know the origin of the motif, names of engravers and whole story behind the note. Sure there never will be a US note 1/10 that beautiful anymore (remember security vs. liberty? nowdays it's much more important to recognize a counterfit - in 50 years there probably will not be paper money anymore - only plastic and all transactions will be accounted for - I'm trying to say "enjoy what we still have"). Nevertheless your statement "the note represents Strength and Growth of our Country during it's ascent to power" is still confusing for me. How this note is different from any other (ugly) note with regard of pride for the Country? Except the reverse, probably - there are 2 great Americans vs. one on contemporal notes. I actually tend to think in directly opposit direction - the less artists care about [geo]political things the more beautiful things they create.
Sorry to confuse you vrt...it's just my way of saying we shall never see this form of strength, beauty and growth of Country (both pride and leadership) perhaps for some time to come. Makes me wish we could recover the America we gave up (sold) years ago. I am sure you have heard the term "Fleecing of America"..what a shame it is to be on the decline side of World Power. Best regards, RickieB
RickieB ,we will recover but not in our time, our children will see it or maybe it will be their children, the China Fleecing of America is our fault for selling to much t-bills ,but they'll never call them in or they will lose as much as us ,so for now were stuck in the same boat and neither of us wants it to sink.I'm 60 years old and have seen a bit of the ups & downs in the economy, more good times then bad and am proud to be an American for richer or poorer, that is the reason people from all over the world want to come here and some die doing it or defending us !
