This is another exciting pick up for me!! Since i,am always looking
To upgrade from my existing set, This outstanding example though
I would call a very common note it is rare in this grade, Since there
Is only 1 70PPQ in the whole Mpc set, This makes the 69PPQ a very
Desirable get though there are not many of these either, Well here
It is my Series 661 5 Cents in PCGS 69PPQ SUPERB GEM NEW!!

If only I had kept all that crappy paper money when I had to use it. Most of the time it just got wet and mouldy, most of us didn't bother to carry it. Can't buy much out in the jungle

GREAT upgrade Rusty. Are my eyes playing tricks on me, or is that an "old" style PCGS holder ? I haven't seen one of those in months. Congrats again on the beautiful note.

    Hey Steve!!

Yes, your right one of the old style first generation PCGS holders, i,am not really a big fan
Of these because there really flimsy! in comparison to what they have now but when it
Bother,s me enough i will pay the $6 bucks and have it re-holdered......LOL

That's about the most beautiful nickle I've ever seen!!!

Picked it up with a couple of others, huh? Will you kindly share those "others" with us also?

The Big Red One is right. We hated having to use that funny-money. You would use a clean $1 MPC to buy a cold beer in a club. The barkeep would lay you change on the bar where it became soaked with spilled beer. Then he refused to accept the soggy change in payment for your next beer. It got to the point where you bought four beers for the dollar, kept one for yourself and passed the others along to your buddies. In turn, they would do the same for you. After weeks of humping under triple canopy jungle, slogging through chest deep water of mangrove swamps and wading through the foot-sucking, energy draining mud or rice paddies, you couldn't care less about a couple dollars worth of MPC. All you cared about was sleep and drinking as much of that good, cold beer as you could handle. As the war progressed and base camp facilities became permanent, the clubs went modern and started selling their own tokens. The tokens felt like real coins, didn't get soggy and could be used in the vending machines that started showing up in the bigger PX facilities. They were an instant success.

It is noted that Series 661 was issued on 21OCT68 and withdrawn on 11AUG69, a relatively short period to be authorized for circulation. This followed the surge of the troop build-up and the free spending GIs having created rampant inflation in the local economy. Question: does the duration of authorization have any effect on the value of any given series? Just curious.

You did good. Good on you!

If i understand your question correctly, Yes the shorter duration does affect the value
Some that were not issued at all like the Series 691 and 701 are worth allot because
There are just not many around!!

Beaucoup thanks for showing us the additional two.

The blue coloring of the single is spectacular.

Now that I've seen it again, that $5 note brings back memories. We were amused by the young female shown on the reverse. We laughed at her retro hair styling. That was even retro for the '60s. She looked like a child to us and we thought she should appear on a Gerber baby food label. This gave the wise-butt in our crowed the bright idea of writing to Gerber and suggesting that they package baby food in C-ration cans, glass jars were just too fragile for a combat zone. For effect, he wrote to them on the back of a C-ration carton, having ragged, torn edges and smeared appropriately with gun oil and dirt. We didn't have to use postage stamps, all that was required was that we print: Free, Vietnam and the date, in the place where a stamp would be placed.

To our delight, Gerber replied. They thanked us for our interest in their product, stated that our suggestion [made in jest] would receive careful consideration and included several coupons for free jars of baby food. We wanted Slim Jims, something meaty and chewy.

About the not issued Series 691 and 701. Have you seen examples of these? I can imagine that there aren't many available and the few that made to market are worth an arm and both legs. Interesting.
