thanks to all who responded to my post on morgan/peace dollar prices... at the risk of being laughed at, here are a few of my recent purchases... i don't have a scanner but all were purchased at one of the major auction houses . all are white and lustrous. tried to buy the best quality in the grade as compared to other auction prices realized, as well as coin world and dealer websites....1881 ms63 $63,1882 ms64...$60, 1883-o ms63...$35,1884 ms64..$39 also bought an 1890cc in fine condition. it is original and problem free...pd $86 for it. all were certified/graded and most by anacs. they seem to go at a cheaper prices, but i purchased the coins rather than the slab! as i have been away from collecting for some time, what is your opinion regarding these prices? any advice is apreciated as i wish to limit my numismatic mistakes!!! thank you all again for your time and consideration....steve

    Steve:
First, if anyone laughed, they are just ignorant.
Second, the prices that you paid, especially for the 1890 CC are very fair. Some are a bit high, but the 1890 CC trends for $135, so that is an excellent price.
    The 1884 is $80, so yours was a very good price. The others: 1881 $65, 1882 $80 and the 1883 O is $50.
So, all in all, you did very well.
Keep going you are doing very good.

Sounds like some nice purchases to me. CC's are getting harder and harder to get. I was watching a show that was auctioning off some coins. Most were to high but they had one NGC 62 proof like $20 gold liberty that sold for $900 bucks, beautiful coin. people can say what they wanted to but if i had been registered with that company before hand, No way would it have gone for that. right or wrong would have gone for that and blow my coin budject for 2007. Did buy a bank of georgia and bank of alabama conferderate note for $70, suitable for framing I think

Just shows you one never knows where you may find coins/itmes of interested.

    thanks for sharing steve

Just remember when bidding on Heritage not to big your top dollar because there will be the winners premiun---of 15%.....so if you bid $100 you will owe them $115.00 + S&H.
So if your high bid is $100 then cut it back to $85...or right around that...

hi...thank you all again!! the prices i pd include the buyers premium. i appreciate all of your advice and your knowledge. i have been away from the hobby for yrs. unfortunately, i didn't keep reference material from then.unless they are stored away in a box somewhere! my sources for purchases have been limited to heritage, stacks, and bowers. i know lots of people who shop on ebay( not coin people) but i have yet to do it. is it safe and reliable?. one thing that is very nice now is the internet. has made it much easier for coin shopping as i can actually see the photos . in the past i had used mail bid auctions and many times it was just a written description. how times have changed.... thank you all again and i look forward to talking with you!.....steve

Without seeing the coins themselves, any comments I or anybody else will give on the pricing is not particualy pertinent. In short, it depends on the coins as to if you got a good deal or not...Mike

p.s. none of the prices you mention sound too bad.

    srkjkd,

I don't use ebay anymore for coins [too much cheating going on], and I think you are assembling a pretty nice collection.

Obviously you know how to work an auction, so don't be afraid of Ebay, you can get deals there.
    Good Luck.
