Just got rolls of brand new Montana Quarters from the mint. I don't really want to open the rolls, but the end quarter of the D roll looks unusual. The B in "Big Sky" is accented. I don't know if the whole roll is like that, and I'm hesitant to open it up. Anyone else get any like this? Is this error special or just a typical flaw? The accent is not an indentation, there is material there. Here's a picture.
OK, here it is again. I'm not keeping it in the roll for value, I collect rolls, so if I open the roll then I have to buy another.
JamMasterJR,welcome aboard. Azmojo, that is a case of a piece of metal being caught in the dies - a filled die.It is a very unusual 'accent' flaw that's worth hanging on to. Aidan.
I got 7 rolls of Philly Montana quarters from my bank and 3 rolls have little bumps of metal on Washington’s neck and 2 other rolls have a filled B in Liberty. Compared to coins that have normal B. Please excuse pictures I’m using my computer cam What ever I got plenty of these !
You say that it's material there... but it looks like a nick judging by the angle of the light. The light source is coming from the upper right. the shadow would have to be on the left side of the rising areas
Not a nick the whole roll has them looks like Washington has Pimples I used a 10x loupe to make sure and the B is filled on my other rolls
I couldn't resist adding this image to the post. This Montana QT appears to have a die crack feature near the eye - as if GW is shedding a tear. Also,an indentation near the rim of the nostril, and small bumps on the lips. I pulled this coin from circulation. It may not be worth much but it is a nice specimen.
Seems to be a lot of the State Quarters with extra metal like the Wis. & Minn. The same bumps you are talking about seem to be like my Montana only different spot. I still have 5 more rolls of Mt. I think I will be opening them
