hey guys im new to this forum and have some questions about some new mint issues. Do you think that it is a good idea to start hoarding the new jeff. nickels? Since they will only be made for two years, I am not sure whether they will be a rarity or will have the same fate as the bicentennial coins. Also, do you know if the reverse of the quarter will go back to the eagle or be totally changed after 2008?
Hard to say what will happen with the new nickels - look what happened with the State Quarters and they were struck in even larger numbers. But it is the high grade & ultra-high grade examples that bring premiums - I doubt it will be much different with the nickels. As for the quarter - nobody knows for sure yet. But Virginia legislators have introduced a bill that would require the quarter to return to the old design and stay that way forever. Personally I am not in favor of this idea.
i agree with you ive already started hoarding the older jeff. nickels and quarters in hopes that the design will change
Well I can tell you that the Jefferson Five Cent coins are being sold at a level not seen since the 50's. A lot of attention has been given to the new designs, and the general public is very excited at the change. It will have a good impact on the hobby.
are you referring to the montecello reverse or the new reverse? Also, is it a good idea to start buying quantities of war nickels?
I think it's a good idea to buy any silver content coins, period. Right now I'm holding on to about 10 times the junk silver coins I had this time last year. Unlike last year, I'm selling only the collectible ones, no more roll sales.
The Jefferson series as a whole has increased dramatically in the past twelve months. The major keys are the 1939-D, and the 1950-D. So if you have them, hold for a couple of months and dump them. Both should hit the 7 to 8 dollar range.
