Just picked up a couple new medals from today's MECC show, and I'm having a bit of trouble finding information on them (including value.) I've found plenty of other similar medals, but not many exact matches (especially for the GW medal.) If anyone happens to know more about these, I'm happy to learn. Medal #1: Obverse: George Washington, bust right Reverse: Centennial Celebration of the Inauguration of George Washington First President of the United States April 30, 1789 Weight: 20.0g (feels heavy to be aluminum, let's go with "white metal") Diameter: 40mm Thickness: 3.5mm Medal #2: Obverse: Martin Luther : Zur Feier Des 400 Jahrigen Geburtstages Luther's in der Amerik(n) Kirche : Geb den 10 Nov 1483 : R. Laubenheimer Reverse: Concordia-Seminar St. Louis, MO 9 Sep 1883 Weight: 28.8g Diameter: 44mm Thickness: 4mm There is a similar medal (same obverse) here that is gilt (which mine isn't.) There is a holed example here without any mintage/price information. There is a match here on eBay with a BIN/BO price of $239.95, described as "white metal."
Hey @Paddy54 - an update on that first medal - I think the Washington Medal is catalogued as Douglas 11 (EDIT - found the web link here.) It was engraved by George Hampden Lovett. Susan H Douglas wrote a book called "George Washington Medals of 1889" that I'm going to see if my public library can order for me tomorrow. (I believe it may be in the ANA library, but I'm no longer a member so no access.) There is an example here at the New York Historical Society (no value attached to it.)
