Well went and checked out Ott-Light. Wow pretty expensive! Looked on eBay they are about 1/3 retail but decided to try a regular full spectrum bulb in my desk lamp - what a difference! Took some pictures of a toned nickel from the 57 rolls I have, and a close up of the mintmark of a 45 S. These are the first pics I've taken using the full spectrum light and I think this is going to improve my photos immensely. What do ya think? The obverse shots are of the same coin just slightly different lighting angle.
I bought a full-spectrum lamp from www.naturallighting.com at just over $100 with shipping a year ago. Since I collect both stamps and coins and stamps are overwhelmingly my predominant hobby, the lamp is just wonderful to work with, read by and enjoy with all my hobbies. You will wonder how you ever got along with one in the past. Mark Coral Springs, FL
I only bought a full spectrum fluorescent 23W bulb for around $9.00 at Lowes. I think I'll get a couple more and play around with lighting.
Thanks Speedy. I think my photos were ok but the color was never right! I never could get a picture to show the toning like this.
I don't like the colors on mine either....but I fixed that....I turn all of my pic's black and white. I decided that there must be a reason why when you see all of the books with photos of varieties they are always printed in B/W....then I found out that it makes it easier not to worry about the color Speedy
Don't know how I missed this nickelman??? Great shots - I love how well the different colors of the toning show up! I think you are on to something - look forward to seeing your experiments with more of them! Best Regards Darryl
