Ok, this section seems to be lacking a little in interest lately.. I am hoping to change that, if nothing else I will be posting in here frequently! First off Why Nickels??? Why Not??? I love NICKELS! They are a interesting coin with plenty of varieties to search out that are profitable to sell, they are cheap to obtain, the coin itself if nothing else is worth more than face value as the price of metal rises, the nickel has melt value of nearly 10 cents currently!

Old coins are possible to find in rolls at a steady pace, SILVER INCLUDED! Other than Cents they are the only other denomination that you can frequently find older coins when roll searching. Case in point... Today I go the bank I used to work at and was greeted with "We got new nickels for you!!" Ahhh music to my ears!!! SO I buy the case of nickels, all $100 worth and bring them homefor this weeks roll searching! Well I dig into them tonight, first sealed bank roll I pull a 39D in fine + condition the second rarest jefferson nickel (aside from varieties and errors) Dang I said its gonna be a good night!! A couple rolls later, I pull out a roll from the box, just a typical looking rolled at home roll with "squashed" ends that some bank patron had turned in. I open and gleaming right at me is a nicely toned 1958 (P) I mean in BU condition a good solid ms63 any day of the week! my heart pounds as I dump the roll, THE WHOLE ROLL IS BU 1958 (P) A few even real close to Full Steps, but not quite... my luck wasn't quite that good!!

I finished up about an hour ago and had gone through 20 rolls.... I have found 168 coins pre 1960 and even found a 1945-P SILVER nickel today!! Now this was a good night by any roll searchers standard, but I'm happy to report that this is almost typical of my nickel searching! ( Now I still have to go through these individualy, I'll search for varieties, RPM's Doublings, Heck if a die crack is interesting I keep it, point is I think nickels have been overlooked for way to long and its because of this that there are so many good ones, just waiting to be found.

I hope to become extensively involved in drawing interest to nickels. we got a great forum to interact on LETS USE IT!!! Please share your finds, I'd love to congratulate you on them! I'm a nickel nut and hope there are a few more nickel nuts out there who want to share the hobby! OK my rant is over!! Welcome to Variety Nickels!!

Good post dak! I'm an occasional nickel searcher myself. Nickels, IMO, especially the Jeffersons, are an overlooked series as far as whats out there to be found thats still in circulation.

I'm working on a set of 1950-Date Jefferson Nickels.... I'm getting close, but I've still got a bit to go...

I've really enjoyed this set... When I finish, I was going to start on a set of Ikes, but I think I might do a P and D set of Jefferson Nickels...

I'm working on completing the Jefferson set from roll searching. Nickles are fun.

I'm just getting ready to start a Jefferson set from circulation. I've managed to get all but one of the silver nickels (got them for below bullion value), so I figured I might as well build around that. Haven't really started to get into it yet, as I don't have an album to put them in, and I can't remember what I have or don't have without some sense of organization.

I am so glad to see I'm not alone! I really want to start a set of Indian Head nickels, I got a good start on it from pulling them from rolls, the price to fill the gaps just scares me a bit. I've grown comfortable and accustomed to my circulated nickels. I've managed to put together a set of Jefferson nickels all in EF - AU condition straight from roll searching over the last few years. Just steadily upgrading the set as I find ones in nicer condition. Maybe I'll start a BU collection of Jefferson Nickels. There are so many directions to go, and I guess I will do them all eventually. Anyway, thanks for the support folks! I hope to liven things up and post my nickel finds here a couple times a week! Good evening to ya'll , DAK

I also have a Dansco that I'm building a set from Circulation, but its got a loooooooNg way to go....

  11. I am almost up-date with my Jefferson circulated Dansco album. I have yet to come across any 2007's and still need 1938s - 1939s - 1940s. It seems these are the hardest to come by. So for now I am keeping my eyes open.
    Happy? Sorry about that....

I also promise to join in on the posting purely for the love of nickels!

I told Dak, but noone else. Since I have assembled a nice BU set of Jeffs, I think that the full step collection is beckoning me. Some have said it nearly impossible, well, on a normal budget anyways. I usually start with the keys, so we're gonna dive in with the 50's and 60s...

Wish me luck, all... I will post as I have news.

Best of luck on your quest... It will be long, to say the least but each new FS you add to your collection is a milestone and an accomplishment in itself! DAK

Thats quite a task to take on mikenoodle. I wish you lots of luck. It would be a spectacular set if its able to be accomplished, financially that is.

I also love the nickels, been searching a couple of years, at least $50.00 weekly. I keep all the four new Westward Journey, peace, keel, buffalo, and ocean, no telling how many I have quit counting and started weighing, not really, but I also keep everything from 69 down. It is a blast, when you can find that 50d and it be au, or the 1938, buffalo, war nickels, you never know. I also roll search half dollars, $500.00 about every two weeks, still some good finds, but not like the nickels.

    "bonus Guess"

So things just get interesting now!!!

My name is MissLiberty, I am DAK's Wife and I'm giving you all a little help!

First off, if you are the first to find this post, then quickly reply to http://www.cointalk.org/showthread.php?t=24802 with the phrase "BONUS GUESS" to stake your claim on this bonus.

By being the first to find this bonus and the first to make the required posting on "!!The Golden Coin Hunt!!"
You just earned a free bonus guess that you may use now EVEN if you have already guessed in the last 24 hours! If you have not yet made a guess, you get 2 guesses that you may immediatly use!!

Additionally as the FIRST finder of this bonus, you receive 5 bonus points towards the 100 needed to win the gold coin!! Again only the first to post "BONUS GUESS" over on the contest thread will be awarded the bonus guess and bonus points, so whatcha waiting for, get over there!!!

Now, here is an additional clue that anyone can use!

She's close to "Bacon's" first instinct,
See that, she just gave you a wink!
Surrounded somewhat by copper or is it zinc,
Simply a little overlapped I think!

SO ...With that, its nice to meet you and I hope you all are having fun! MissLiberty
