I just got this one from my dealer today as a gift! He graded it MS-66 RD. I was very happy to get this one =) The photo doesn't do it justice though.
It looks gorgeous, but I feel it has a few too many contact marks to grade MS-66 (especially on the reverse in the area of the shield). I also wouldn't call it RD as it has some slight toning. I would say MS-64 RB!
Gopher, like i said, the pic does the coin no justice. It really isnt that badly marked, and that toning shows up much worse in the picture as in hand. Heres a deluxe layout from my coin photo buisiness featuring this coin....
Gopher, now that I read that post, it could be taken the wrong way. Im not trying to be rude, but I was just saying that the pic does make the coin look worse. Sorry if it came off rude.
That is a nice coin! I don't think 66 red - I would say 64 RD, but then again I think pictures make some coins look worse. I would not be suprise if someone graded 65RD. Also the pictures make me think RB, but that could be the lighting. All in all one nice coin - and a gift? Lucky you.
Beautiful! A nice example of the year, especially if the pics don't do it justice. Very nice. :thumb: Phoenix
No need to apologize. I did not interpret your response as being rude. I merely read it as you were trying to explain why you felt the coin's grade of MS-66 RD is justifiable.
A camera that took me 5 months to save up for, and a few months of practice. This one really didn't come out that good though.
thats a very nice looking coin!:thumb: its still amazing that something 105 years old looks so good! that must have really been taken care of.
i know what the ms-66 means, but since im still very much a rookie. whats the RD mean if you dont mind me asking? GO ROCKIES!!!
RD = Red A cent in original condition would be considered red. As they age, they turn brown. Now, a question for you. What is on your head in your avatar ?
:mouth:Fantastic coin and for a great price, free. Now if you were really appreciative of such a gift you would share and send it to me. And I will even pay postage.
