I just got this 1899 IHC today and after some photos and a transfer to an airtite I started to notice some slight marks on this coin. In any light it has beautiful luster and magenta and green toning. My concerns are as follows: On the obverse: 1- I noticed 2 pin hole like marks above the earlobe. 2- 2 short marks on the cheek, 3- a tiny mark on the hair curl at the bottom of the ribbon. On the reverse: 1- a small part of the 2nd & 3rd horizontal bands of the shield are filled in. (possibly a broken die at the separation of the 2 lines) 2- a wavy line of discoloration of the toning going under the letter C in CENT and coming out the top in a SE to NW orientation. I hope this is in the planchet alloy mix. Please have a look and I'd appreciate all the observations and comments you've got. Bruce
It looks like my pictures aren't quite good enough to pick up the marks I mentioned above. Tomorrow, in some daylight, I'll try again. Bruce
Harryj, Yes thanks. The last picture of the reverse gives the truest likeness of the coins color and crispness. Except that the coin is much redder. I'll take more photos tomorrow in sunlight. Bruce
Nice coin. I see the two pin pricks and the wavy line under the C in cent. They do not look to bad to me, but you have the coin in hand. The only thing I hope is that the color is different - cause these make me think cleaned or recolored. The color looks off, but it is still a nice coin.
Nice coin! I agree with Mark, the color looks off, hopefully just the pics. Still, a nice coin, congrats with it! :thumb: Phoenix
