Neat. Wouldn't you love to find something like that? I'm not sure what I would be tempted to do with the find.

I couldn't fathom finding something like that. Would be hard to keep it a secret too.

Curious how Netherlands has a Portable Antiquities Scheme seemingly similar to Britain's but the finders of the 8 solidii in 2012 failed to report them until the 23 coins were found in 2016.

In Britain significant finds need to be reported - even seemingly insignificant finds that add to the historical record need to be reported. I purchased a 17th century Irish token from a seller in England a few years ago - the coin had been found in a rural Shropshire field by a detectorist in 2007. It was unusual because of finding an Irish token in rural northern England and as such was reported by the finder and recorded. When I purchased it the seller had to get an export license to send the coin out of Britain.

Seems like a lot of legwork, but I have an otherwise fairly common 1670s Irish halfpenny token from Cork that has an unusual story attached to it - sometime nearer to when it was circulating it travelled to rural northern England with a trader or traveller and was lost. I have this piece with a documentation of where and when it was found, by whom etc. In a way it has a provenance when so many coins/tokens don't.
